The purpose of this rotation was to gain experience working with animal models in relation to physical activity and genetics. 

Prior to performing any hands-on activity, I completed relevant CITI training (“Reducing pain and distress in laboratory mice and rats,” “Working with mice in research,” “Working with the IACUC”).

Assisted with the following tasks: 

  • Collecting body composition measurements via mouse MRI
  • Weaning pups 
  • Attaching running wheels to cages
  • Changing cages
  • Measuring ano-genital area 
  • Sacrifice and dissection for later analyses
